With all the drama behind the A Tribe Called Quest documentary it seems to be warmly accepted in the film community. Michael Rapaport’s documentary on the legendary Hip-Hop group won a prestigious award during the Los Angeles Film Festival on June 26.
The name of Rapaport’s documentary is Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest and the film took home the audience award for Best Documentary Feature during the film festival.
Group member Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest discussed his feelings about the documentary to MovieLine.com, during the screening.
“I have seen it before but each time I see it I see something different,” Ali Shaheed Muhammad said. “L.A. seemed to have a real cool mellow kind of cheer. I saw in New York and it was a little bit different, which is reminiscent of every time we step on stage; each city has its own reaction. It reminded me of the early days when we first came out.
Beats, Rhymes & Life: The Travels Of A Tribe Called Quest opened on July 8 with rave reviews.
